Excess fat deposits can be extremely stubborn. Even those with a slim and sporty build cannot beat it. Jogging, aerobics and spinning – the results are mostly unsatisfactory. Normal diets are not able to diminish excess fat deposits in the tummy, leg and buttock areas. Our body’s genetic system stores fat reserves for times of crisis – some people more than others.

These excess fat deposits can be fought with a strict diet and sports only, or by undergoing liposuction. About 450,000 people in USA undergo this procedure every year – a growing tendency.

Contrary to a diet that solely reduces the fat cells, liposuction permanently removes the fat cells. Any cells that remain will be unaffected. They can still store fat.

Overview of the procedure

Pre-operative check-up

The pre-operative check-up complies with the European standard requirements within the framework of preparation for an anaesthetic.

Local anaesthetic: basic haemogram incl. blood clotting factor
General anaesthetic: comprehensive haemogram plus ECG.

Your local doctor or an internal specialist can perform the pre-operative check-up. The clinical report must not be older than 2 weeks.

The pre-operative check-up can be completely performed in the Czech Republic.

Possibility of aftercare

First the entire area to be operated must be disinfected. The surgeon makes tiny incisions so that thin cannulas can be inserted to suction the adipose tissue. To remove the fat cells, the cannula is pushed back and forth. The incisions are then stitched and bandaged tightly. As the body also loses fluid during liposuction, an IV fluid line is often set.

Liposuction can be performed on the following areas:

  • Cheeks
  • Chin
  • Neck
  • Back
  • Upper arm
  • Upper abdomen
  • Lower abdomen
  • Waist
  • Hips
  • Buttocks
  • Thighs
  • Lower legs
  • Inner knees

I.) Tumescent liposuction
The treated areas is injected with a local anaesthetic diluted with a physiologic saline solution. This causes the adipose tissues to swell up and the fat cells to become liquid, allowing an extremely fine cannula to be used to perform the actual liposuction.
Tiny incisions of 3-5 mm will be left, most of which do not require stitching.
Usually the incision scars will not be visible, as they are located in skin folds or are covered by hair. Specialist: Dr. med. Michael Puls

II.) Laser-assisted liposuction (SmartLipo)
To obtain optimal results, tumescent liposuction can be combined with laser treatment. Laser-assisted liposuction helps to dissolve the fat cells that have already been treated with the tumescent fluid. The fat cells and the tumescent fluid combine to form a watery, fatty fluid that can be suctioned very gently. Advantages of this method are precise shaping of the contours as well as gentle treatment of the tissues.

III.) With VASER liposuction technology through circular Lipo Selection are possible for the first time. This special technique, a defining of certain areas of the body, such as abdominal or shoulder muscle is now feasible. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia. In advance the areas to be treated are defined together with the patient and marked.
With fine VASER-microcannulas the previously marked areas are infiltrated with a special solution of local anesthetic and saline. The tissue may be carefully prepared for the extraction by ultrasound.

After infiltration, the fat tissue is then gently dissolved layer by layer, with special VASER-cannulas. The advantage over other techniques is that nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue structures are preserved in this type of liposuction and thereby the healing can proceed to an optimum. A tightening effect of the tissue, which is one of the most important features of the procedure, can be excellently forced.

IV.) The BodyTite method allows unwanted adipose tissue to be removed while also providing a noticeable skin lift. BodyTite is also an effective method of treating cellulite. This radio-frequency assisted liposuction (RAFL) procedure converts electrical energy to melt away the fat cells. A special cannula precisely removes the adipose tissue through radiofrequency energy from the inside. This energy heats up the subdermal tissue and soft-tissue matrix for considerable body re-contouring and tightening.

V.) Vibration-assisted liposuction (VAL) uses a micro-vibration cannula. This cannula extracts the fat very gently. The vibration frequency effectively stimulates the tissue during the procedure, so that patients recover extremely rapidly. Even the skin benefits from the vibrating effect by tightening afterwards. This method is recommend when undergoing liposuction on your calves, hips and thighs, as it helps combat cellulite. Specialists: Dr. med. Michael Puls and Dr. med. Peter Ondrejka
